About Us

Dr. Glenn A. Buchanan, D.C.

Dr. Buchanan is a healthcare professional who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. He utilizes various chiropractic techniques to adjust/realign the spine, reduce pain, and improve the physical functionality of his patients. He will also integrate therapeutic exercises and massage therapy into these treatments, thus promoting a more balanced physical rehabilitation process. Since each patient is unique, he will design a unique treatment plan for each patient's condition, with patient comfort always a priority. Dr. Buchanan believes that chiropractors should use the least amount of force necessary to accomplish the spinal adjustments. Being overly aggressive and forceful may cause additional injury to the patient, so Dr. Buchanan utilizes specific techniques instead of force. He treats each patient as though they are a part of his family; therefore every patient is treated with kindness, gentility and thoughtfulness. Quality time is allotted for each session; you will not feel like you are on an assembly line at Buchanan Chiropractic. Dr. Buchanan prides himself in his technical skill level and attention to details, which allows him to provide a painless and positive experience.

Dr. Buchanan's Story: "Chiropractic changed my life forever"

I was born and raised in the beautiful state of Virginia. I was very active in sports. The area has many lakes and rivers, and Virginia Beach was only a few miles away.  Water sports became my favorite activities; swimming, extreme water skiing, and especially beach activities. During my high school years, I was on the wrestling team, and was found at the beach during the summer months (surfing, swimming, etc.). I was in the best shape of my life, and never had any major injuries. I felt like I was invincible. But things would change for the worst, in just a few years.

I married my high school sweetheart, and I worked at a shipyard, while pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering at night school. Years later, I graduated with my BSME from Old Dominion University, and worked as a Test Engineer on nuclear submarines. I went through the shipyard's nuclear program, and qualified to be a nuclear test engineer. Life was good.

THEN I WAS INJURED, AND LIFE WAS NOT GOOD ANYMORE.

I hurt myself while working on my house.  I had severe low back pain, and could not bend, twist, walk, etc. I had never been hurt like that, and life changed drastically.  I could not work as a test engineer, and I could not do the typical work around the house. I saw many different medical doctors (I didn't know the value of chiropractic at that time), and they just prescribed medicines and physical therapy. I was a good patient, I took their medicines, and I also went to two  separate 6 month physical therapy programs. Three years later, and I am only 70% better. Since I couldn't perform the activities that I normally would perform, I gained weight, which added to my low back problem.  None of my friends had been to a chiropractor, and I had heard that "quack" word, so I didn't even consider going to see one. I had nurses and medical doctors in my family, and was directed in that treatment path. I was desperate now, and even started considering surgery. I chose the best surgeon in the surrounding 3 city area, and he said that I was not a candidate for low back surgery, and he sent me to my first chiropractor. I must admit, I was not too convinced that this was the answer to my low back problem. I feared the worst. I pictured someone jumping onto my already injured back, and doing more harm.

WOW, I WAS SO WRONG. CHIROPRACTIC CHANGED MY LIFE.

My chiropractor was so gentle, but very effective. It was a treatment process, but I was getting better each week. I was starting to return to the lifestyle that I enjoyed years earlier. I loved what chiropractic did for me. I really envied the chiropractic career that my doctor had. He truly loved what he was doing, and his patients loved what he did. Whereas my nuclear test engineering job was very very stressful, and the shipyard environment is "dog eat dog". Not happy there. So not only did I get my health back, I was inspired to go back to college to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. Life is too short to be unhappy.

Not long after that, my lovely wife and I traveled to Dallas, Texas. After I graduated from Parker College of Chiropractic, we decided to move to the Kent, Washington area to enjoy what the beautiful Pacific Northwest has to offer. That was another great decision. We love it here. I have now been practicing in Washington state since February 2000, and could not be happier. I am with the woman that I love (we have been married over 41 years), living in a place that we love, and having a career that I love.

 LIFE IS GREAT.
